The Estate
The Estate Roche des Bancs, formerly “Domaine des Fossiles”, is located in the Brionnais wine region in Burgundy. Definitely disappeared after the Second World War and the development of cattle breeding, The ‘Old Brionnais Vineyard’, famous in its time, counted nearly 4000 hectares of vines before the great crisis of Phylloxera, in 1886.
In the 1990's, a passionate and daring entrepreneurial winemaker, Jean-Claude Berthillot, successfully revived the old vineyard to create an organic, elegant, mineral and personal wine. A confidential wine, reserved for the curious connoisseur. With more than 8 acres of vines cultivated on the hillsides of Mailly, Fleury-la-Montagne, Iguerande, Oyé and Saint-Julien-de-Jonzy, the wine estate has become a reference in the region.
On October 1st, 2020, Thierry Hellin and his wife Sophie Barcella, two passionate wine enthusiasts from Burgundy and Champagne, took over the work of Jean-Claude.Their aim is to develop and evolve the endless potential of La Roche des Bancs and to bring their exquisite wines to a wider audience.
