First natural wine

Gamay Pinot Noir 'Saute-Haie Nature', aged in oak barrels

The estate has been cultivated organically since 2011 and the former owner, Jean-Claude Berthillot, had already had the desire in recent years to start making a natural wine, without any added sulphites. We discussed it together and decided to make the first natural wine of the estate, a blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir.

We chose this wine from the estate's range of wines because of its fruity, gourmet character, which lends itself particularly well to the expression of a natural wine. Its name? Saute-Haie", in reference to the hedges that separate the meadows in the Brionnais bocage, and which also separate our vineyards from the rest of the ecosystem. Its name also evokes the marriage of gamay and pinot... but no one knows which one jumped the hedge to join the other!

The wine was filtered and bottled after the vats were "inerted" with nitrogen, in order to preserve the precious beverage from the harmful effects of oxygen. Indeed, natural wine is not protected by sulphites and could oxidise in the bottle after contact with oxygen.

After tasting and testing the resistance of the wine in a few test bottles with a little rough handling, we are proud of the result. It is up to you to confirm it at your table...
